A heady blend of eroticism and innocence

It seemed so simple. Roland Connor intended wreck revenge on the woman his enemy holds dearest. Daniel had debauched his sister, leading her to her grave. His plan is perfect. He'd seduce the innocent woman destined to be Daniel's wife. He'd teach her harlot tricks, and maybe late one night, when she lies in her husband's arms, rather than calling out her husband's name, she'll call out Roland's name instead. He didn't know she'd teach him to love.
Kept like Rapunzel in her tower, far removed from the mundane necessities of life, Rachel Summerville accepts her aunt's dictate that her only job in life is to be pretty and to marry well. Despite his misgivings, Rachel plans to marry the man her aunt selected for her. Then she meet's one of her aunt's guests. Roland's insolent smiles and hopeless importance awakens the woman within. Even knowing that he's a gambler, a horse thief and a con man, Rachel allows him to teach her the pleasures of life. She descends a rope to his waiting arms, and together they walk the streets of San Francisco, attending the symphony and tasting the forbidden. Even as she gives Roland her heart, she knows she will marry another.
Once again author Linda Jones creates a naughty, sensual romance that will hold readers entranced. Combining the faerie tale elements of Rapunzel with the horrors of Jack the Ripper, LET DOWN YOUR HAIR becomes a tale both uncommonly fresh and sharply original. This sensual journey of a young woman's awakening sexuality combines eroticism and innocence in a heady blend. As Rachel learns to let her hair down, they share a joint lesson in life and in love. Clever and different

I've read most of these fairy tales and I've found them all clever and different. Each one makes me think and laugh. I'm always amazed at how she twists the tales and comes up with something new. For instance, "Let down your hair/hare," takes on a whole new meaning in this book. I enjoyed it immensely!

Oh! The drama!

I was impressed with the retelling of Rapunzel into an American historical romance.

But the drama. To me, this story became sordid with murder, revenge, rape, and seduction. There is romance too and some mature bedroom scenes, but the negative parts overshadowed any happiness from reading this story. Not something I will seek to read again.

Great playbook with actionable advice

This book does a great job of blending theory with practice and lots of case studies - from the Porsche Cayenne to Optimizely and a paper mill. Yes most people realize that pricing has a big impact on profitability. The insight from this book was how to use pricing data BEFORE building the product so you invest only in the product features that your customers will actually pay for.

Monetizing Innovation is way more than a pricing book.

As an instructor for Pragmatic Marketing I teach companies how to innovate. As a pricing expert I teach and coach companies on pricing concepts. Madhavan has done a fantastic job at combining both of these topics.

Sure, after you have an innovation you have to price it. But the real magic is creating the innovation that buyers would be willing to pay for.

I especially like the examples he sprinkles throughout his book. I highly recommend this book to anybody who is trying to create new products.

You need a teacher with this book.

My teacher says this is the ultimate book. However, you need a teacher because many pieces do not have accompanying audio, nor can you find them on Youtube. Even if I stumble through the exercises, it makes me much better on easier songs.

Good, in depth, but....

Very in depth. I have been playing guitar for decades, so the theory was easy to follow. Not sure if I would have liked this book so much if I didn't have a strong musical background. I certainly would not recommend it for a first time student.

The Adventures of Tintin (Les Aventures de Tintin) is a series of comic strips created by Belgian artist Herge the pen name of Georges Remi (1907 1983). Herge himself features in several of the comics as a background character; as do his assistants in some instances.
The success of the series saw the serialized strips collected into a series of albums (24 in all), spun into a successful magazine and adapted for film and theatre. The series is one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century, with translations published in over 50 languages and more than 200 million copies of the books sold to date.
The comic strip series has long been admired for its clean, expressive drawings in Herge's signature ligne claire style. Engaging, well-researched plots straddle a variety of genres: swashbuckling adventures with elements of fantasy, mysteries, political thrillers, and science fiction. The stories within the Tintin series always feature slapstick humor, accompanied in later albums by sophisticated satire, and political and cultural commentary.

Fans of the title's print version (Candlewick, 2013) will likely be disappointed by its audio adaptation. The novel features a number of fun cartoons, and does not translate well without the accompanying artwork, which plays a significant role in telling the story. While reader Tara Sands makes a valid attempt to differentiate male and female characters, she does not quite pull it off. The men in the novel come off sounding hokey and exaggerated. An Illuminated Adventure of a Rodent and a Girl

I’m a third grader at an elementary school in Wisconsin, and this is what I think about the book, Flora and Ulysses. The main character in the book, Flora, is a 10 year old natural born cynic. Well that’s what she likes to call herself. Her mother thinks she’s weird because she has a superhero rodent named Ulysses as her best friend. This book is also illustrated with comic strips that are great for allowing the reader to visualize the story. It will always have a kick of humor but stays true to the author’s style with a sweet, heartwarming ending. If you or your child loves a book where the genre is fantasy and always will be based on animals with human like characteristics, then Kate Dicamillo is your author, and this is a great book for you.

If you loved "Because of Winn-Dixie"....

My 10 year old, 7 year old and I read Because of Winn-Dixie and absolutely fell in love with the story and went right to Amazon to purchase another story of the same author. We are three-quarters the way through this book and in my opinion, it can't be over soon enough. I have been reading it aloud at night to both kids and I have a searing headache after each night of reading. My daughter (7yo) old is bored with the story however my son (10yo) very much enjoys it. When he tries to take a turn to read aloud he gets frustrated easily and hands it back to me, but he enjoys it when it's read to him, so take that for what it's worth. The vocabulary is stacked, it's super fast paced and very choppy. Not charming, or even remotely pleasant and I have found it lacks tremendously warmth and depth of character. I suspect I am comparing apples to oranges, however due to the fabulous story that was "Because of Winn-Dixie" and the excellent reviews for "Flora & Ulysses" ... I just expected more.

I was distracted by Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures

Holy unanticipated occurrences! Last week I was distracted from a good book (Peter and the Starcatchers) by a better book. Okay, it wasn't unanticipated because it happens to me quite often, but that is Flora Buckman's favorite line from her favorite comic, which guides her when she discovers a squirrel with super powers. Yes, you read that right. A squirrel with super powers. Bet you didn't anticipate that, did you!

In Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures there are many unanticipated occurrences and it all begins with a vacuum cleaner, a squirrel and a natural born cynic named Flora. There is a wacky cast of characters including a self absorbed romance writer, an air head neighbor, an emotionally traumatized great-nephew next door and a sad, sad father. They all tip toe right up to the line of being too wacky but only cross the line a little and in such silly ways I loved them for it. In fact, I won't even try to give you a plot synopsis because honestly, it's a simple and predictable plot but a joy to read and discover on your own.

Kate DiCamillo books are always wonderful read alouds, but this one is just BEGGING for a dramatic reading. I gave it to my brilliant eight year old for Christmas and we've had a terrific time either reading alone or together. This is a great book for sitting close on the sofa so you can both see the pictures but leave plenty of room for dramatic gestures which you'll probably find necessary as you read. The illuminations (illustrations) are basic yet expressive and they really enhance the humor. Honestly, it's hard to capture the funny wonderfulness of Flora and Ulysses in a review. You have to read it for yourself. :)
